It’s the night before you fly away on holiday and you start to panic. What clothes am I going to take, what suitcase am I going to use, have I got everything I need? Sometimes getting ready for a ski holiday can be so stressful that it almost takes away the excitement especially if you have booked a last minute ski deal. We have a few tips to help minimise the stress and send you away for a perfect holiday. The best way to make sure you don’t go on holiday without that all important items is to make a holiday checklist. This way once you have packed you essentials you can tick them off the list. Another way is make the list as you go along so you can just look at the list to see exactly what you have packed. Clothes are probably the most important thing to think about, you don’t want to turn up either in with the wrong clothes or having forgotten your ski gear. Make a list of the ski clothes you need to take with you; thermals, salopettes, jacket, scarves, gloves and socks and then a list of clothes for the evenings. Despite the snow and cold you can get quite warm when you are heading down the slopes so it is always better to layer up and then remove the layers if you get too hot. Check the snow conditions before you leave for your holiday so you know what whether to expect.
You also need to protect yourself from high altitude sun. It is a factor that many people over look but when you are up in the mountains the light intensity is higher as the rays are not filtered as well by the atmosphere. This can cause skin to burn and you may not even realise because it is not actually that hot. If you have you own skis an airline is likely to charge extra for these to go in the hold so it’s best to check this beforehand. If you are making your own way from the airport to resort it may be easier to take a hiking bag than a suitcase are they aren’t the easiest things to wheel in the snow. Many people don’t bother with ski insurance and instead take the risk that they won’t get injured. But skiing and snowboarding are dangerous activities which makes it vital to protect yourself with ski insurance in case anything was to happen to you on the slopes. They are activities which pose an increased risk and are therefore not covered by normal insurance, specific winter sports insurance is designed to give you cover for emergency medical situations and mountain rescue. |
